NOUN GENDER - MS. BEATRICE

NOUN GENDER

Nouns can be classified into four genders:
1. MASCULINE GENDER :
A noun that denotes a male member (person or animal) is called masculine gender noun.

Eg:  1) Master your word is my command.
       2) The lion is the king of the jungle.


2. FEMININE GENDER :
A noun that denotes a female member (person or animal) is called Feminine gender noun.
          Eg:  1) The bride looked very beautiful.
                  2) The heifer is grazing in the field.


3. COMMON GENDER :
A noun that could denote either male or a female is called common gender noun.

Eg:  1) The student has submitted his projects.
      2) Parents often make sacrifices for their                       children.


4. NEUTER GENDER: A noun that is the name of a thing that is neither male nor female   and which is inanimate (lifeless) is in the neuter gender.

Eg:  1) Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
      2) We saw the match on the television.

There are different ways of forming the feminine gender.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES GIVEN SO THAT YOU CAN PREPARE YOUR CHILD WELL FOR THE ENGLISH PAPER STD.5

  1. READ THE PROSE CHPTS.  AND THE POEM WELL.
  2. SEE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THE CHARACTERS AND THE CENTRAL IDEA OF THE POEM OR PROSE CHPT.
  3. WORDSTUDY OR MEANINGS IS IMPORTANT SO THAT THEY CAN IDENTIFY WORDS EASILY.
  4. MAKE THEM PRACTISE FINDING RHYMING WORDS IN THE POEM.

Read the following passage carefully (Pgs.2,3) “Send milk to your….. began to scream. Answer the questions that follow it.
Qt.) Why did the wife want to send milk to her sister ?

Ans.1)The wife wanted to send milk to her sister because they would have plenty of milk if they had so many cows.

Qt.2) Why did the husband not want to send a pot of milk to his wife’s sister ? 

Ans.2)The husband did not want to send a pot of  milk to his wife’s sister because he wanted to sell the milk in the market.

Qt.3)Why did the wife say that she had the right to send milk  to her sister ?

Ans.3)The wife said that she had the right to send milk to her sister because  she did all the hard work of running after the cows, so naturally, she would decide what happened to the milk.

Qt.4) Why did the wife scream ?

Ans.4)The wife began to scream because her husband began to lift and smash the earthen pots one by one.
